El Niño is coming. Metorologists and weather forecasters are predicting heavier rains and flooding this winter season in parts of California. The U.S. Climate Prediction Center has reported that it is 95% certain that
El Nino will dramatically effect the weather this winter in the Northern Hemisphere, including California.
Standard homeowners insurance does not cover flooding. So if you have not purchased flood insurance from the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), you probably are not covered. If your home is in an area at
risk of flooding you should consider
purchasing flood insurance from the NFIP. Moreover, given the El Nino rain and precipitation predictions, you may want to consider obtaining flood insurance from NFIP even if your home is outside the floodplain area. Be mindful that it takes 30 days from the date you purchase the flood insurance before it goes into effect.
